Hippo Point Manor House
Lake Oloiden, Naivasha

“A beautiful, idyllic spot with gorgeous sunsets, rolling green lawns, and lots of giraffe, zebras, monkeys, impalas, warthogs and more strolling through the property”

Hippo Point is an escapist’s dream – an exquisite and historic Tudor-style manor house in a sublime and secluded lakeside setting. A stay here is a transporting experience and combines elegant, romantic accommodation and engaging service with gorgeous scenery and abundant wildlife.

All About Hippo Point Manor House

“Just a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy the closeness to nature, but in luxury. The attention-to- detail, both in the design of the place and in the service cannot be emphasized enough. Hippo Point is Kenya’s answer to the Garden of Eden. I can’t wait to return!”

Hippo Point is a beautiful, secluded private sanctuary with a wildlife population of 1,200 animals roaming freely over 500 private acres – a pristine bridge of land between Lake Naivasha and Oloiden Bay shaded by a forest of towering “yellow fever” Acacia trees.

The Manor House is a private country house built in 1932 with 8 bedrooms accommodating up to 14 guests.  Sophisticated, comfortable and welcoming, it’s the perfect environment in which to relax amid nature and wildlife with family and friends.  The house is decorated, equipped and furnished to the very highest standards throughout.  Turn-of-the-century English and French furniture, antique Russian linens, polished wooden floorboards and beautiful original artwork all combine to lovely and harmonious effect.

The Manor House has two Dining Rooms – one inside and one open-air with lake views, as well as a spacious lofty Drawing Room with two fireplaces, converted from the estate’s former granary.  A separate sitting room with fireplace has a library with a great selection of African and contemporary books and a television with selection of classic dvds.

The first floor Master Bedroom has a private bathroom with bathtub, and an adjoining single bedroom with a view of the Lake and English Garden.  Also looking out across the water is the Yellow Room – a double bedroom with adjacent bathroom and lavatory.  The Red Room is a single suite beautifully decorated with a small sitting room and private bathroom.  The Twin Room is very spacious, with a private bathroom and adjacent lavatory.

The Ground Floor Suite is an all-white and wooden double bedroom with a fireplace, dressing room and a very special large bathroom decorated with exotic murals.  Niko’s Tower (named after the house cat) is a delightful little cottage with a single bedroom upstairs and bathroom downstairs. The two Stable Rooms are downstairs double bedrooms just across the grassy courtyard, each with a private bathroom.

There is also a spacious country kitchen where guests can look on or get involved in preparing delicious meals with chef Janet and her team. They specialise in light and healthy cuisine featuring fruit and vegetables from the estate’s extensive organic garden, and can cater for all dietary requirements.

Guests can choose to dine in a variety of different settings – in the English Garden, by the swimming pool, under the trees by the lake or on the hill overlooking the lake, or in either the inside or outside Dining Room.

There is no set plan or compulsory schedule of activities at Hippo Point – guests can spend their days doing as much or as little as they wish.  Many will simply wish to luxuriate in the beautiful house and gardens or relax in and around the lovely large swimming pool, and there is always a bevy of friendly staff on hand to assist guests in any way they can.

The conservancy is not fenced and shares boundaries with a neighbouring game reserve so it is abundant with wildlife.  Enjoy the feeling of being at one with nature on a guided game walk with an experienced guide, or explore the nocturnal animal life of the sanctuary on a night game drive.

As well as the pods of hippo in the lake, the conservancy is home to giraffe, zebra, warthog, buffalo, Colobus monkey, hyena, antelope, gazelle and many more – and leopard and even lion are occasionally sighted. The estate is also an ornithologist’s dream, home to several hundred species of bird.

Hippo Point Manor House can also be taken in conjunction with the nearby Dodo’s Tower to accommodate up to 20 guests

Visitors' Book

“Hippo Point is one of the most amazing places you’ll ever set foot in! From the moment you arrive, you will feel like you have come to a magical place. Surrounded by wildlife, looking out onto both lakes, with smiling friendly helpful faces everywhere who will take care of whatever you might need, and the most amazing fresh food you can imagine! There is an amazing pool also overlooking the lake and the morning safari walks are fantastic. Every single room is beautifully decorated and the touch of history at the Manor House transports you back in time a little. We absolutely can’t wait to return!”

“I cannot say enough good things about Hippo Point! Nested between Lake Naivasha and Lake Oloiden, it is not rare to look out your window in the morning and see 100 buffalo strolling by. The accommodation was nothing short of incredible and the Manor House was perfect for our party of nine.  Each room was tastefully decorated with gorgeous bed linens and wood panelling.  Every meal is a dining experience. The table is always beautifully set with napkins folded to look like flamingos and bouquets of brightly coloured flowers. The chefs prepare the most delicious meals, with all the vegetables grown in gardens on the property.  Bernard, our wildlife guide, was a walking encyclopaedia – the man knows everything about the birds, animals, and the flora and fauna at Hippo Point.  He also has a smile so big it can make your day go from good to great!  We were lucky enough to see two very stealthy leopards!  We cannot sing the staff’s praises loud enough. They were so attentive to detail and such gracious people. Thank you to Hippo Point for an unforgettable vacation of a lifetime!”

“Hippo Point is not only a beautiful, idyllic spot with gorgeous sunsets, rolling green lawns, and lots of giraffe, zebras, monkeys, impalas, warthogs and more strolling through the property, it is also a beautiful, comfortable stately house staffed by attentive and warm staff which feels more like you’re staying in a friend’s home than a lodge or hotel. From the freshly squeezed fruit juice at breakfast to the sumptuous lunches on the lawn and indulgent cocktail hours on the hills above the lake, you are pampered with quiet grace and old-fashioned style. A stay at Hippo Point is like a trip back in time to the heyday of the “Happy Valley set” at its best. Highly recommended.”

“I am lost for words how beautiful and magical this place is.  From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were treated like royalty. We had the whole place to ourselves and everything was perfect, the food, the service and the accommodation. It’s one of the best places I have ever stayed.  I am a passionate wildlife photographer and Bernard our guide was so helpful and worked tirelessly to ensure I captured as many species of birds and other wildlife as possible during our stay. He was so knowledgeable about the names of all the birds and animals. Thank you Bernard! The food was absolutely delicious – we had breakfast by the lake and I felt I was in heaven, and dinner at the mansion was so beautiful. I just want to thank the manager, the chef and our butler and housekeeper and all the staff for taking such good care of us during our stay.”
